Coburn Amendment Defeated

The Coburn Amendment to ban all earmarks has been defeated. The final Senate vote was 56 against the ban and 39 in favor. This was a huge victory for Communities In Schools affiliates and, most importantly, the students we serve.

The Coburn Amendment to ban all earmarks has been defeated.  The final Senate vote was 56 against the ban and 39 in favor.  The amendment would have eliminated $4 million for Communities In Schools in the 2011 federal budget.  As a result, Communities In Schools local affiliates would have lost money for three consecutive years.

The Communities In Schools grassroots network mobilized quickly, contacting legislators to urge defeat of the Coburn Amendment.  This is a great example of how your voice can shape the outcome of policy debates in Washington, D.C.

Thank you all very much for taking such prompt action in support of the students we serve.  Follow this link to see the vote breakdown so you can thank those Senators who voted to defeat the amendment.
