CIS Releases Statement Marking Anniversary of George Floyd's Death

By Communities In Schools | May 25, 2021

Communities In Schools® (CIS™), the national organization working to ensure every student, regardless of race, zip code, or history of marginalization has what they need to succeed in school and beyond, issued the following statement:

"Today is a day of remembrance and reflection. We honor the memory of George Floyd and reflect on the past year of racial reckoning that has begun to lead to changes in our country’s awareness and national conversations around the issue of systemic racism in education, law enforcement, health, and other institutions. Yet, it is also a day for recommitment.

In the year since Mr. Floyd’s murder, we have lost so many other lives because of the deadly police force used unjustly and disproportionately against Black and Brown people. Communities In Schools is committed to being part of a movement for systemic change at every level so that one day every child will grow up in a country where they are celebrated for their diversity, feel included in our national institutions and receive equal and equitable justice and treatment under the law."
