Q&A with 2019-2020 Milliken Fellow Tres’Rionna Whitlock

Oct. 2, 2019 Alumni

Tres’Rionna Whitlock is an alumna from CIS of Mid-America who will graduate this December from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma. She also serves on the Alumni Leadership Advisory Committee. Tres'Rionna's project for the fellowship will focus on developing a curriculum to engage school resource officers in creating safe, inviting and supportive environments for students. We asked Tres'Rionna a few questions so she could share who she is, what she believes in and why the Milliken Fellowship is important to her.

Q: If you had a personal mission statement, what would it be?

Tres'Rionna: My mission is to both inspire and positively impact every individual I encounter.

Q: What’s your favorite job/volunteer position you’ve ever had?

Tres'Rionna: My favorite volunteer position would have to be when my sorority chapter, the Beta Upsilon chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, donated multiple baskets full of food for students who’d be staying on campus for Thanksgiving break. It was such a fulfilling moment to see the students’ faces when they received their baskets.

Q: What aspect of the fellowship work most excites you?

Tres'Rionna: Being given the opportunity to help; help the students, the schools, and the communities. Also, being able to pour back into CIS. I get to serve an organization who once served me, and I personally find that very rewarding.

Q: What kind of legacy do you hope to leave for those who come after you?

Tres'Rionna: It is my desire that I leave behind love, creation, passion, and change. I want to leave behind my life lessons, and both inspire and motivate others through my walk and purpose.

Q: You were featured in our 2014 Change The Picture campaign. What have you been up to since then?

Tres'Rionna: School, school, and more school. I since have graduated high school, and I’m now getting ready to graduate college.

Q: What’s the TV show you never miss?

Tres'Rionna: Greys Anatomy. I can’t wait until this upcoming season premieres.
