This week we’re reading news and activities from our affiliates around the country:

-Communities in Schools of Brunswick County in partnership with Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office in North Carolina are getting students ready for the courtroom. In teen court, student volunteers are trained to serve as attorneys, jurors, bailiffs, and clerks in real cases in diversionary court for first-time juvenile offenders. The program is designed to give students a hands-on educational experience to help them better understand the justice system. Read more

-The Bank of America Charitable Foundation awarded Communities In Schools of Jacksonville a $12,000 grant to support the nonprofit’s annual summer STEM camps at Ed White High School and A. Philip Randolph Academies of Technology. More information

-Communities In Schools of Robeson County will hold its annual Stuff the Bus campaign from Aug. 3 to Aug. 8 during which people are asked to donate school supplies that can be provided needy students. Read more

-Recently, three students from the Communities In Schools of the Heart of Texas  program at Fairfield Middle School were chosen to take part in a college exploration trip to Waco. Upon arriving in Waco, our students combined with other Communities in Schools groups from Itasca and Clifton and spent the day immersed in college preparation activities. Continue reading
