Elaine Wynn

Chairman - Director, Wynn Resorts

Elaine Wynn has established herself as a savvy business leader, influential philanthropist and dedicated crusader for children’s welfare. She has served as Director of Wynn Resorts since 2000 and has helped guide the company’s expansion. Her leadership skills have served her equally well in matters close to her heart. She is actively involved in a variety of community organizations whose priorities mirror her own – the enrichment of children. Mrs. Wynn's commitment to improve children’s lives through education has engaged her in numerous leadership roles at the local level as well as the national level.

In 2010 she was appointed by then-Governor of Nevada Jim Gibbons as co-chair of the Education Reform Blue Ribbon Task Force, created to submit a state application for the federal Race to the Top competition and make education reform recommendations to the state legislature. She is the founding chairman of Communities In Schools of Nevada, the current Chairman of the national board of Communities In Schools, a Trustee of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and a board member of the Library of Congress Trust Fund.

Mrs. Wynn’s philanthropy has extended into other arenas as well, and she has received numerous awards and accolades, including the Governor’s Philanthropist of the Year Award in 2005, an honorary doctorate from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 1986 and a National Promise of America Founder’s Awards for improving children’s lives. In 2011, The National Child Labor Committee awarded Wynn with the Lewis Hine Award for Service to Children and Youth. She is most proud of the dedication of the Elaine Wynn Elementary School in 1991. Born and raised in New York City, Wynn graduated from George Washington University in 1964 with a Bachelor’s degree in political science. She lived in Washington D.C. before moving to Las Vegas in 1967, where she continues to reside. She has two daughters and seven grandchildren.
