How Jesus Found Confidence in His Future
Jesus, a senior at Triumph Public School - Laredo South, is preparing for an exciting next chapter. This fall, he plans to attend Laredo College and pursue a career in healthcare — a path inspired by his passion for helping others and making a difference in his community. Along the way, Communities In Schools® (CIS®) of Laredo has been a consistent source of encouragement and support. Learn more about Jesus’s journey, written in his own words:
My educational journey has not always been easy, but it has shaped my determination and future goals. There was a time when I struggled to stay motivated in school and found it difficult to see the bigger picture of my education. However, everything changed when I transferred to Triumph Public School - Laredo South.
The supportive environment provided by my campus Principal, Sandra Castillo, and all the teachers — especially, Ms. Pena, my Phlebotomy class teacher — made a difference in my life.
Last but not least, my CIS Site Coordinator, Ms. Valadez, whom I’ve known for only a short time, has inspired and motivated me to try my very best and helped me apply for a scholarship. Through this encouragement, I felt a renewed sense of purpose that helped me improve both academically and personally.
This experience has shown me that, with the right mindset and support, I am capable of achieving more than I once believed. As I look toward my future, I am committed to continuing my education by attending Laredo College and pursuing a career in healthcare.
I have chosen this field because it allows me to work directly with people and contribute to their care in a meaningful way. I am presently certified in Phlebotomy, which plays an important role in the healthcare system by helping diagnose and monitor patients, and I am passionate about being part of that process. Additionally, I hope to use my education to help others in my community by providing compassionate care and support in a healthcare setting.
Education is deeply important to me because it represents opportunity — not just for myself, but for my family as well. By earning a college degree and gaining specialized skills, I will be able to create a stable and successful future.
I want to be someone my family, especially my mother, can depend on and be proud of. My family has helped me stay strong and reminded me that I was not alone. With their encouragement, I began to understand the importance of resilience and perseverance. Instead of giving up, I learned to push forward, even when things felt overwhelming.
I focused on becoming a better person, not only to make my family proud but also for myself. Over time, I found a sense of calm and strength within me that helped me grow emotionally and mentally. I am motivated, determined, and ready to take the next step in my educational journey.
Known for being kind, respectful, and driven, Jesus’ journey reflects perseverance, growth, and the powerful impact of support systems that help students overcome adversity. We are so proud of Jesus and his commitment to giving back to others in a meaningful way.
