Kharma is Committed to Helping Others

April 16, 2026 Graduation

Kharma has been part of Communities In Schools® (CIS®) since her junior year, becoming one of the first students supported when site coordinator Kimberly Pham began her role at Alexandria City High School. From the very beginning, Kharma stood out — and since then, she has grown into a confident leader within her school community.

In her own words, Kharma reflects on how CIS has shaped her journey:

My journey with CIS has really helped me grow both personally and academically by giving me support, guidance, and opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise. It’s also given me a sense of comfort in the chaos of school — a place where I always feel supported and understood. It pushed me to stay focused and think more seriously about my future.

Because of CIS, I’ve been able to explore my goals and start planning for life after graduation.

- Kharma, CIS Senior

That focus and sense of purpose show up in everything Kharma does. Her dedication and work ethic truly set her apart. She balances her academic responsibilities while working as an Alexandria city employee in therapeutic recreation, demonstrating her commitment to serving others. She is also an active participant in the CIS Tier II girls group program, where she consistently uplifts and encourages her peers.

In addition, Kharma joined the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) this year and quickly stepped into a leadership role — an impressive accomplishment for a first-year cadet. Her ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining a positive attitude speaks volumes about her character.

Driven, compassionate, and determined, Kharma embodies the qualities of a natural leader. Her resilience and strong commitment to her goals continue to inspire those around her.

It has been inspiring to watch her [Kharma] grow into the confident young woman she is today, and I have no doubt she will continue to make a meaningful impact in her community.

- Kimberly Pham, CIS Site Coordinator

This spring, Kharma will graduate and continue her education at Virginia State University in the fall. She plans to pursue a career as a psychiatrist — combining her passion for helping others with her commitment to personal growth.
