Rep. Susie Lee, Communities In Schools to Host Virtual Briefing on Supporting Wrap-Around School Services
On Tuesday, Sept. 8th from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm ET, U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) will host a virtual briefing with Communities In Schools (CIS) to discuss the importance of wrap-around school services in the K-12 education system, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Rep. Lee will be joined by Rey Saldaña, National President and CEO of CIS; Tami Hance-Lehr, CEO of CIS of Nevada; and state and national education experts.
Wrap-around school services are programs that support the whole child by providing students, particularly those in underserved, low-income communities, with help that leads to success in and out of the classroom, like tutoring, after school programs, college prep, nutrition, and mental health support.
On Aug. 28, 2020, Rep. Lee introduced the Communities Serving Schools Act, which would provide $1 billion in grants to state and local education agencies to invest in wrap-around school services that assist with the health, well-being, and stability of students outside of the classroom.
